Download Monopoly Games

Interested in downloading a game of Monopoly, but not necessarily buying one of the many commercial Monopoly games? This list includes a large number of freeware, shareware and Open Source versions of the Monopoly for Windows, Linux, the Mac, windows mobile devices, iphones and various cell phones. There are even a few web-based games. Below we'll give you the download links and a brief description.

Open Source

These games (and the source code) are free to use, but you must adhere to the terms of the license agreement. They were developed within the Open Source community, and run on a wide range of platforms and operating systems. Some of these are to be run on servers, as a game host site, other will run on a PC. Many of these work for over the internet play.

Freeware & Shareware

These are games which are generally free to use (or at least try), at this writing none of them supported network play. They are available for various operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, mobile phones, windows mobile devices, iphones, blackberry and more).

Commercial Software

These are officially licensed products, and do cost money. If you're interested in running Monopoly on the Palm OS or PocketPC, you're limited to Handmark's Monopoly, or downloading the CD version.

psMonopoly's own multiplayer online game. Our multiplayer game is free to download, and free to play online against other people. It's a great game based on the original Monopoly Game.
2 Monopolie (Windows - Open Source)
Monopolie is the first Open Source clone of the original board game Monopoly for Windows! It works just the same and includes sound effects! This runs on Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP.
3 Java Monopoly (platform Independent - opensource)
I have not tried this one. It claims to be a full-featured Monopoly game with animation, etc. Please let us know how it plays.
4 Monopoly INT v2.5 (Freeware)
Monopoly INT is a freeware dice game on a board designed for at least 1024x768 resolution. Assumption is that you know the classic Monopoly rules. The aim is to collect lots of money and estates and bringing other players to bankruptcy. You can choose between English or Croatian language.
5 GtkAtlantic (Open Source - Linux/Windows)
gtkAtlantic is a free Monopoly client, with both Linux and Windows versions. This game will connect with an existing monopd server, and allows multiplayer play over the internet.
6 Monopoly for Java (Java OS Independent)
7 Monopd Server (Win32 Opensource)
Open source windows monopoly (atlantic) game server. This is a Win32 version, to allow HOSTING of Monopoly games on Windows PCs and Servers.
8 Kapitalist (Opensource Linux Client/Server)
Capitalist is a Monopoly-like board game for 2-8 players. It is server/client based and intended to be played over network. Kapitalist is the Linux client and Capitalist is the Unix Server. I'm not certain if there are any public use Servers.
9 monopd (Opensource Linux Server)
monopd is a dedicated game server daemon for playing Monopoly-like board games. Clients such as Atlantik and gtkAtlantic connect to the server, which manages the game. Currently supported board games are Monopoly(R) and Atlantic.
10 Statopoly-CLI (MacPPC - opensource)
Monopoly game with extensive stats. CLI version. For MacPPC.
11 libgmonopd Monopoly Server (POSIX)
libgmonopd is a stable and fast embeddable monopoly-playing server written in C. Its main purpose is to allow monopd-compatible clients (such as gtkmonop) to have a 'start server' command available directly from the GUI. It uses an XML protocol.

13 Handmark Monopoly (PocketPC - Commercial $$)
I got this one for my Windows Mobile Phone. A great game, but a little challenging to play on the phone.
14 Monopoly for PDAs (Palm OS - Commercial $$)
I don't have a Palm device, but the PocketPC edition from Handmark is a great game.

16 Atlantik (opensource KDE/Linux/BSD)
Atlantik is the leading open-source game client for Monopoly-like board games to be played on the monopd network. Atlantik is available for computers running the KDE Desktop Environment. Supported platforms are Linux, BSD and other operation systems running KDE.
17 Galactic Magnate
Galactic Magnate is a free game that merges several gaming concepts. Game basics are similar to the classic board game, Monopoly. However, the rules of Galactic Magnate are made to minimize the impact of luck.
